About the Festival
The Yeongdeok Snow Crab Festival is an experiential festival that delivers the 'true taste' of Yeongdeok snow crabs. During the reign of King Chungmok, the 29th king of Goryeo, a person named Jeong Bang-pil was appointed as the first magistrate of Yeonghae. When the magistrate toured the village, he tasted Yeongdeok snow crab and praised it highly. Because the shape of the crab's legs resembled bamboo, it was called 'daege' (snow crab), and Yeongdeok County named Chayu Village as the original village of snow crabs based on its history. When Wang Geon and Gyeon Hwon competed, they visited Chayu Village, and at that time, crabs were presented to the king, making it a thousand-year-old taste presented to the king.
