About the Festival
From March to April, Yeongchwisan Mountain blazes red with azaleas. The Yeongchwisan Azalea Festival is held annually, offering various events such as mountain god rituals (Sansinje) and mountain concerts (Sansang Eumakhoe) for spring visitors to enjoy. With the arrival of spring, 'sincere rituals' are performed in various places by people seeking to welcome the new energy of spring through flowers. Yeongchwisan Mountain (靈鷲山), one of Korea's three major azalea habitats, also holds an azalea festival around early March to April each year to celebrate its vibrant red energy. After passing Heungguksa Temple and climbing the hiking trail for about 30 minutes, the foothills of Yeongchwisan are filled with fully bloomed azaleas, creating the illusion of pink paint being scattered, eliciting exclamations from viewers. Various events held amidst the azalea fields also attract tourists, with the mountain god ritual (Sansinje), which serves as the spiritual pillar of the Yeongchwisan Azalea Festival, being the main event.
