About the Festival

Jung-gu, Seoul, will host the 2026 Yi Sun-sin Festival, a special celebration commemorating the birthday of Admiral Yi Sun-sin, reaffirming the historical identity of Jung-gu as his birthplace. A splendid birthday party unfolds in Jung-gu, where Yi Sun-sin's wisdom and courage originated, with a giant birthday cake featuring 481 congratulatory messages, where everyone becomes the main character and enjoys themselves. This festival goes beyond mere observation, consisting of four zones where visitors can actively participate and enjoy as protagonists. First, at Sunsin ROCK, a magnificent parade by the Navy Honor Guard and an exciting performance by the Navy Public Relations Unit welcome visitors. In addition, the Iron Man Yi Sun-sin selection competition, primarily led by local residents, and various stage performances continue without end. Sunsin FIELD, the food zone, features 20 representative restaurants from Seoul's Jung-gu, offering abundant culinary delights. Sunsin MARKET is a flea market where local merchants and artists participate, a space where you can find various planned products related to Admiral Yi Sun-sin. Lastly, Sunsin PLAY is an experiential playground composed of three themes: past, present, and future. From making 'Sunsin Boys' paper hats and 'Nanjung Ilgi' pop-up books, traditional calligraphy, and play experiences, to a Roblox Yi Sun-sin birthday party, VR horse riding experience, and Geobukseon (turtle ship) puzzle making, there are plenty of programs for people of all ages to enjoy with their families. Through these diverse programs that satisfy all five senses, Jung-gu invites all citizens to a harmonious event celebrating the birth of Admiral Yi Sun-sin.
