About the Festival

The Geumnam-ro Car-Free Street Festival is an event held once a month on Geumnam-ro, Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City. This festival was planned to promote public transportation, bicycles, and walking, and to spread an eco-friendly urban culture. In 2025, it will be held once a month from March to December. The event provides an environment where citizens can walk freely, and various hands-on programs and cultural performances are operated together. In particular, the opening ceremony includes a bicycle parade. The purpose of this festival is to promote the advantages of public transportation and eco-friendly mobility, and to emphasize the importance of pedestrian rights. It is an urban cultural festival where citizens can communicate and enjoy together, centered around Geumnam-ro.

About the Festival

1) Urban relaxation space "Swijaing" - Bean bags and parasols are provided for comfortable relaxation on the road. - Bean bags offer a sense of liberation on the vast road, while transparent domes provide a cozy and comfortable atmosphere. - By linking with local bookstores and installing design booths, citizens can enjoy relaxation and reading at the same time. 2) Realizing carbon neutrality "Julyeoing" - Creation of a space that provides eco-friendly experiences by installing tree booths by related and environmental organizations. - Utilizing resource circulation robots to collect transparent PET bottles and encourage citizens to realize the importance of recycling. 3) Citizen/merchant/organization-led autonomous citizen space "Noljaing" - Separate bicycle storage space is provided for the convenience of bicycle users. - Citizen-participatory flea market increases both the fun of the event and the length of stay. - The busking stage is designed to minimize facilities and blend naturally with the surroundings, considering urban aesthetics and the car-free street view. 4) Large symbolic sculpture photo zone "Jjigeoing" - Production and installation of a signature sculpture that indicates the entrance to the event venue. - Seasonal wrapping designs for posters are created to intuitively convey the theme of the event.
