About the Festival
*The food contents of the festival venue below are from last year's (2025) festival, and the contents for the 2026 festival are being updated.* The foundation of the Eumseong Pumba Festival is the life of the late Grandpa Choi Gwi-dong, the "beggar saint." He, who became the foundation for Father Oh Woong-jin to establish Kkottongne (Flower Village) today, was himself disabled but went around the villages in the Mugeuk-ri area of Geumwang-eup, obtaining food and feeding beggars who couldn't even beg. For this reason, his life is regarded as that of a saint of love, inimitable by anyone. Legends about Pumba have been passed down in various forms. Pumba is said to be an onomatopoeia used in the refrain of a Gakseori Taryeong (a traditional beggar's song), serving as a kind of rhythm. The Eumseong Pumba Festival has integrated Pumba, which has become synonymous with traditional itinerant vendors, with Grandpa Choi Gwi-dong's spirit of philanthropy. Even though our lives in modern society have become affluent, spiritual poverty and inequality still exist. This festival was born with the premise that such a society should experience catharsis through satire and humor, and be 'healed with love and sharing.' Furthermore, the Eumseong Pumba Festival is a spiritual and cultural festival that practices love and sharing.
